Ethan Freedman

ethan freedman

science and nature writer

I’ve spent my career telling
stories about science

from rainforest conservation and climate policy
to microbiology, geology, and health.

Over the years, I’ve been trapped by a flash flood in Tanzania, heckled by threatened birds in California, and attacked by giant fish in the Amazon. I’ve driven up cliffs in the mountains of Arizona, spotted rare frogs in the Ghanaian highlands, and filmed hummingbirds in Colombia.

But mostly, I’ve spent my time finding stories that explore our planet's past, present, and future — with work featured in Scientific American, Slate, Hakai, Sierra, Live Science, Fatherly, and elsewhere.

If you have a project that needs a
seasoned science communicator

let’s get in touch.

Reporting

In journalism, most of my work focuses on climate change, ecology, nature, and the built environment. Check out some examples here and get in touch if you have a news tip or assignment that might be a good fit — or even if you’d just like to chat about an idea.

Freelance Writing, Editing and media production

I’m also available for hire as a writer, editor, and media producer — and can work on projects such as blog posts, white papers, grant proposals, reports, video and podcast scripts, newsletters, and more. If you have a project or idea, get in touch and I’ll provide you with some examples of work I’ve done for different clients and my rates.
